Sfumato

This word literally means “going up in smoke.” To the best of my ability, I have sought to follow Da Vinci in his “willingness to embrace ambiguity, paradox, and uncertainty…”, to become “more at home with the unknown, to make friends with paradox.”

I took this digital photo of Kwan Yin at the Hilton Hotel in Waikoloa, Hawai`i in 2003 during a summer business conference. Read more about Kwan Yin below.

  1. Hi Lucy,
I was looking at some of these websites you have listed here and I would say that you have definitely embraced ambiguity. I took a closer look at the information on the Druids and hippies. I was raised in Palo Alto California. I was in my early teens when the whole hippy thing was happening all around me. I wished that I was older because I wanted some of that free love. I remember Jerry Garcia used to give guitar lessons at Dana Morgan music store right down town. I knew people mentioned in Ken Kesey’s book “Electric Kool-aide Acid Test.” I became a hippy as soon as I could and then when I was 19 I moved to Hawaii and did the back to the earth thing on a ten acre farm in Honaunau which is where my daughter was born and raised.
Looking at your blog gets me inspired. I wish I had more time. I wonder where you find all the time to do so many things. Do you not sleep much?
I tend to need quite a bit of sleep. Thanks for the inspiration! See you in class.

    Aloha,
    Deborah
