Hello Lucy, well, I’m one more coming to Hawaii to garden, inspired by your blog. I hope that doesn’t frighten you! first I’ll camp and write for a while, and search out the perfect bit of land. I’m afraid I’ve put you and your Hawaiian gardening compatriots on a pedestal, and I hope to ask for advice before buying my tiny bit of gardening space. I know absolutely nothing about Hawaii soil or plants, so all advice will be taken as true, wise and extremely valuable! Thank you in advance! And thank you SO much for your blog—I wouldn’t have taken this adventure if not for your blog.
Thanks for the beautiful words, Lynn! There are areas of Hawaii that are much easier gardening than where I am, but overall the weather is perfect, and the growing is intense. We have some great gardeners, here.

We are kama’aina who went military after college, got married, and are now stationed on the mainland. 🙁 Your lilikoi recipes are wonderful. Please keep the recipe section! Seeing your site was awesome; wife’s family has a home Puna side (Kea’au area) although we are townies from Honolulu. Your website makes us homesick, but in the very best way. We try to come home regularly, but are stuck w/crazy work schedules for a loooong time. Which is another reason why your site is so great–we love to see home shown so amazingly. Hi Lucy, I was looking for a lilikoi recipe to send my daughter and came across your site. My recipe is similar to yours. I scoop all the insides of the fruit in to a large ss pot and bring to just under a boil. let cool and squeese through cheese cloth then freeze in 1cup batches to use later , i mark the batches with amounts so i know just what to pull out. I also seal tops with wax and lids, maybe this is a hold over from my mom and not necessary now.
Your book Feral fables intrigues me ahhhhh but no moah kindle. Can I buy it and download it to my computer? Can I send you $$$ and you mail it to me via USPS?

Aloha, and thank you for your hints on how to get the pulp from the lilikoi. I’ve tried several ways, and all seem to work. I don’t use wax anymore, but I do sterilize the lids and jars before putting in the lilikoi butter. I’ll send you a private email about how to get Feral Fables. And a Happy Solstice to you, too!! 🙂
