I am a strong supporter of Hospice for several reasons. Our Hospice of Kona puts on an annual tea, with a silent auction and a hat contest. (No, I didn’t win a prize.)
I was invited to sit at the table with a dear friend who sponsored our table for eight. Kim’s hat should have won first prize.

Hospice of Kona provides a training program for anyone who would like to volunteer. One of my former students started out as a volunteer for a school service project. She now works for hospice.

What a fun day! It was a typical little girl’s “tea party” on an adult level, and for a good cause.

Watch this YouTube for a scan of the room full of gorgeous hats.
Hospice of Kona has a thrift shop that supports Nakamaru Hale, their hospice home. Also, at the thrift shop, you can borrow walkers, crutches, canes – anything you need on a temporary basis. When you have healed and no longer need these items, you simply return them for someone else to use.
Check out everything Hospice of Kona offers at their website.
A hui hou!

Your hat is lovely….! There were some stunning hats at the tea. I love hats but I’m afraid they don’t look good on me…
I used to wear hats all the time of one sort or another. Once I cut my long hair off, I have trouble keep hats up off my ears!
The long hair gave a bit more volume under the hat. I need to find some that are a little smaller – love wearing hats!
Back in the day….when I lived in Georgia and the Carolinas (I’ve lived in both NC and SC) we always wore hats (and gloves!) to church and teas (and in the early days, to garden club meetings too!!!)…I had some lovely ones, and although I do love wearing them, I never though I looked good in them…
By the time I left to move to Florida, the hat and gloves custom was losing ground…
Oh yes! I grew up on hats and gloves, too! My mother used to make hats and they were incredible! But the kind I prefer to wear today would be more casual, beachy kinds of hats. I love big floppy straw hats!
I like the big, floppy hats too…;-)
